What is Oral Conscious Sedation Dentistry?
Often times patients who plan on getting one of the more invasive procedures performed, such as dental implant placement, bone grafting, all-on-6 full mouth reconstruction, etc. tend to feel anxious or uncomfortable. Oral conscious sedation is a method of sedating the patient to the point where they are still awake and can perform normal functions, but are less physically aware of what is taking place.
When sedated, you are still able to respond to requests, but feel much less intimidated and anxious overall. Typically we prescribe a sedative drug that is taken prior to a planned treatment, but in more extreme cases a sedative that is taken at home the evening before a treatment is necessary.
